Message for the Group Scout Leader September 2011
Welcome back to all the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Section Leaders and helpers to the start of the Autumn Term 2011.
Where has the last year gone! Looking back;
We had a very successful Family Camp over May Bank Holiday weekend at our local camp site. 14 families attended a full on fun packed weekend of activities such as Shooting, Climbing, Abseiling, Woodland walk, Camp Fire, Wide Games. (to name a few).
See the link to the right for photos and a camp fire video.
We are now planning the next Family Camp for 2013, to make sure you keep an eye open for notices coming home and on this web site.
Section Activities, Sleep overs and Camps have again been a great success with great fun being had by all. There are to many to list here, but highlights were; District Beavers Sleep over at Park Farm, Cubs weekend camp at Chessington and summer camp at Thriftwood in Essex and Scoutabout weekend.
We continue to achieve great progress with badge work in each section with Chief Scout awards being obtained in every section. We have also seen two leaders receive their Wood badges and our Scout Leaders receive Commendations in recognition of their contribution to Scouting.
I'm very pleased that Liz Keegan has agreed to become an Assistant Beaver Leader.
Liz has been a regular helper with the Beaver section for over a year helping the Beaver Leader James at weekly meetings and activities, so this is great news and gives the Beaver colony a strong base to develop further.
We have continued with additional Fund raising activities such as Jumble Sale, allowing others to use our HQ and donations from Local Councillors, St Marks Church and Atkins.
Government Gift Aid also provides us with a good income, however we are reliant on parents and donators signing the Gift Aid form. If you pay income Tax and haven't signed a Gift Aid form for our Group please contact the Group Treasurer, Tony Hallett.
Despite a slow initial start our Mini bus is now getting a great deal of use and we hope this will be extended further when we start parking it at our HQ. The redevelopment of our Top Hut for the District Explorers has been delayed but is due to commence this year.
HQ development works
We continue to support Walton Scouts who are meeting at our HQ on Friday evenings whilst their HQ is being fitted out.
This web site has been live for over a year now so we would welcome feedback on how we could make it more useful for all our members and parents. We are also looking for an editor who could write Messages, Notices and Articles about our events and activities as our leaders are struggling to find more spare time to do this Please feel free to email me with feedback or offer of help.
And finally, as always although we have gain a warranted Leader and some additional helpers we are always looking for more help to support the section leaders in providing exciting programmes and activities please let me know.
